About China Association of Social Work (CASW)

China Association of Social Work is authorized and registered by the organization of Registration of Public Organizations, and also function under the administration of the Ministry of Civil Affairs of China. It is the only one authority organizations which delegated by all the expert social groups and workers in China.

CASW was founded in 1988 and became a member of International Federation of Social Work (IFSW) in Jul, 1992. CASW comprises 16 professional committees, 5 special funds, 8 functional departments, 3 units directly under. Guiding by the Ministry of Civil Affairs of China, the CASW diligently put into practice major strategic concepts of the Scientific Outlook on Development and promoting to build harmonious socialist society, and developed a series of influential social activities. CASW was awarded the honor of Chinese Advanced Civilian Organization by the Ministry of Civil Affairs.

What is social work?

Social work is a kind of professional social service which got a scientific theory and method as its instrument. It is guided by the government and participant mainly by the society. The tenet of CASW is served for the civilian to make them out of problems and help them to help themselves.

Guideline of social work: the Scientific Outlook on Development of putting people first.

Ethical Principles of social work: Social justice, feeling, integrity, dedication.

Objects social work sever to: inconvenient (the poor, weak, sickly, disabled, delusory or whose mind out of gear) individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities.

Responsibility of social work: provide professional social service, participate in managing of society, push social policy, vindicate the legality rights and interests of　clients.

Extension of social work: social salvation, social welfare service, the service for obtain employment, the management and service to community, service for family and marriage , medical healing service, social behavior correction, morality tutorship for mentality , maintaining essential rights and interests and so on.

Method of social work: to help the clients not only get out of the hot water both on mentally and materially but also improve sociality capability and achieve self- develop through the methods of case work, group work, community work and administration work.

Function of social work: to settle social problems, to pursue social Justice, to promote the society more harmonious and progressing.

What is the mission of China Association of Social Work (CASW)?

To promote the construction process of specialization and vocationalization of social work under the guidance of Chinese government.

To integrate all kinds of resources, to develop the professional social service that was mainly comprises social welfare service and commonweal activity, to accelerate the socialization process of social work.

To strengthen theoretic study and practice innovation, develop social work education, to diligently optimize efficiency of social work.
