As we know, with the development and improvement of socialist market economic mechanism, tremendous changes have taken place in China’s social structure, and the social problems that had followed increasingly apparent the characteristic of this new period. Scientific theories and methods must be employed to resolve these problems properly——it is social work that we advocate and promote vigorously.

In developed countries, social work is regarded as very professional social service which has been applied for a long time. Thus, it is necessary to enable social work itself to localize further for its development in China, integrate with China’s national condition and historical characteristics.

According to our experience in recent years，we have the belief as follows：China’s social work is a kind of professional social service under the guidance of the government and the broad participation of nongovernmental sectors; it aims to solve problems for people in deed and help people to help themselves by the means of scientific theories and methods; its main function is to resolve social problems、safeguard social justice、foster social harmony and promote social progress.

In recent years, the Communist Party of China and the government clearly put forward and conscientiously implement the Scientific Outlook on Development and the strategy of building the harmonious society. In the course of realizing this great strategy, social work will play its importance role. And it is of great significance for our society, the public and the times. Meanwhile, the new period brings a new opportunity for the flourishing development of social work which was regarded as one kind of new job. Moreover, it also promises a broad prospect for the growth of China Association of Social Workers, which was the association of social workers and social work organizations in China.

China Association of Social Workers , founded in 1991, is a national united、professional 、non-profit social organization which has been approved by Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People’s Republic of China. It undertook the task of proposing the ideas of social work, popularizing social work education, integrating resource from the public, providing social services, strengthening both theoretical and practice innovation ,as well as optimizing effectiveness of social work for years. It has made its due contributions to promoting the specialization of social work in China.

In the new period, we will keep our historical mission firmly in mind，perform our duty strictly, play the role as professional management continuously, promote the construction of organization and professional work; we are going to insist to the Scientific Outlook on Development which put people first, carry forward the Chinese tradition, learn lessons from international experience actively, and establish and improve the system info of social work step by step, which conform to the actual conditions of the country and with Chinese characteristics. We shall play our proper role in the course of building a harmonious society and a well-off society in an all-round way.  

The arrival of the Information Age and the advent of internet technology drive the development of our career. We have already mastered the methods that our predecessors never has; we are devoting ourselves to a new project that our predecessors hasnever been thought about——building an China Association of Social Workers on line, and promoting the career of China’s social work by taking the advantage of network..
