In 2000, the CASW experienced a relatively large scale reorganization with its Chinese name was changed.

2001, there was a round of election took place in CASW, and then it produced the new organization with Xu Ruixin as chairman and Yang Jianchang as deputy chairman; the other vice-chairmans were Wang Jiuan、Xu Liugen、Li Deyun、Ma Xueli、Chen Yi、Chen Youzhang、Zhao Pengqi、Tao Siliang、Wang Sibin and Wang Yili; Zhao Pengqi served concurrently as secretary-general.The association had under it 15 special/professional committees, 5 special funds,8 functional departments, one newspaper and one magazine.

Ever since CASW was founded, it has made great efforts to make social workers professional and promote the process of social workers’ specialization, as well as carry through a lot of explorations in both theory and practice. It has held four successful “Social Welfare Seminar between the Mainland and Hong Kong”, as well as two “China Social Work Forum”. It also finished “the Research on Administration of Civil and Social Affairs in a Socialist Market Economy”, which was one of the first batch of bidding research projects of theories of civil affairs. It held Institution of Social Work together with University for Science ﹠Technology Beijing; and it also has made a lot of investigations as preparation for push forward the vocational qualification certification of social workers.

According to the principle of “organize events to create images, pursue benefit and facilitate further work”, CASW has carried out many activities: National Commending Conference for community volunteers、the Competition for National Ten Stars of Public Welfare、Love to Orphan、Commonweal Model、Love2008、National Contest of Wedding Host、the Speech Contest of narrators at Martyr Commemorate Institution、Community Services Experience Interchange among the Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan、Chinese Philanthropist List、the First China High-Level Forum of Building Harmonious Community and so on. These events caused significant influence and good social benefit.

Given the construction and development for 15 years, CASW has formed the teams spirit of “harmony and solidarity、honesty and credit、innovate in study and enjoy the work”，and the working philosophy of “help people to help themselves、provide professional service、undertake social responsibility、build a harmonious society”. At the same time, it has formed a professional staff more than 200，and joined the International Consortium for Social Workers to be a legal member in 1992. CASW won the award of the National Advanced Non-Governmental Organizations given by Chinese Ministry of Civil Affairs.
